Practice Matching Program

Note: This program is currently only available to Orthodontic Residents, Recent Orthodontic Graduates and Practicing Orthodontists. At this time, we are not providing matching assistance for General Dentistry or any other dental specialty; however, if you are interested in finding an opportunity or listing an opportunity for General Dentistry or any other dental specialty, please contact Steven Ziegler for more information.

The first step of any transition is often the most difficult. For Buyers, that’s finding the right opportunity and for Sellers, it’s finding the right person. Let us help you clear that hurdle more easily and with greater confidence!

There are many companies that claim they will find you the “perfect fit.” In our opinion, no one knows who’s better for you than you! Our Program is designed to remove the middleman and get the Buyer and Seller talking between themselves as quickly and effortlessly as possible while maintaining the Seller’s anonymity.

Our Practice Matching Program is currently FREE for both Buyers and Sellers and is the fastest and simplest Matching Program available anywhere.

Registered Sellers

Whether you want to hire an Associate, bring in a Partner or Sell your practice entirely, Ziegler Practice Transitions is here to help with the industry’s first, truly anonymous Practice Matching Program!

We will work with you to create your Practice Listing and then securely post it on our website where only our Registered Buyers have access. Your Practice Listing will contain only information that you are willing to share and Registered Buyers must request contact via a private and secure messaging system, so you have total control of the communications and your identifying information is never revealed until you choose do so!

All of our Registered Buyers have agreed to the Terms and Conditions of a General Non-Disclosure Agreement and have gone through a verification process to ensure they are actively and legitimately seeking opportunities, so you are protected against your staff, referral sources or competitors learning of your plans and intentions!

Finding an Associate, Partner or Buyer can be an incredibly sensitive venture. Don’t risk your plans being prematurely revealed because you listed with some other Program that didn’t protect your anonymity. List your Practice Opportunity with Ziegler Practice Transitions and list with confidence.

Registered Buyers

Are you interested in becoming an Associate, Partner or Buying a practice entirely? Ziegler Practice Transitions is here to help! Buyer Registrations are valid for one (1) year and can be renewed at anytime upon request.

As a Registered Buyer, you will be able to view all of the Practice Listings available throughout the country, or refine your search by a particular type of opportunity and/or state. So you’re not overloaded with information, Practice Listings are browsed in a limited-detail view and then expanded to reveal all of the information each Registered Seller is willing to share prior to one-on-one discussions.

When you find a Practice Opportunity of particular interest, you simply click a button to request contact and type a short message. That message is then sent to the Registered Seller along with all of your contact information so the Registered Seller can respond directly to you and begin discussions. Your contact information is only shared with the specific Registered Sellers from whom you request contact. Our Program is fast, easy and secure!

Note: It is against our policy to discuss any aspects of a Practice Listing beyond what is stated within that listing on the website. All inquiries must be directed to the specific Registered Seller through the online messaging feature. If a particular Registered Seller is not replying to inquiries, please contact Steven Ziegler for assistance. Thank you.

Listing a Practice Opportunity

Seller Registration Form

If you are interested in providing a Practice Opportunity, contact Steven Ziegler for more information and to begin the process. The information you provide will be stored securely offline and will not be made available to anyone other than Ziegler Practice Transitions’ staff. We will work closely with the Registered Seller to create the description for the General Notice of Practice Opportunities e-mail and to decide what information will be included in the Practice Opportunity Details e-mail. The General Notice of Practice Opportunities e-mail will be sent each month to all of our Registered Buyers in an effort to promote the Practice Opportunity and the Practice Opportunity Details e-mail will be sent to only those Registered Buyers who specifically request more information.

Note: All Registered Buyers are required to agree to and digitally sign the Terms and Conditions of a General Non-Disclosure Agreement in order to complete their registration and begin receiving any information as part of our Free Practice Matching Assistance Program.

There are two (2) ways to list a Practice Opportunity: ANONYMOUSLY or PUBLICLY. The details of the two (2) options are listed below; however, it is important to note that regardless of which listing type the Registered Seller chooses, the program requires that both the General Notice of Practice Opportunities e-mail and the Practice Opportunity Details e-mail be created.

Listing Anonymously:

When Listing Anonymously, the Registered Seller’s exact city and state will be exchanged for a geographic description within the General Notice of Practice Opportunities and Practice Opportunity Details e-mails (e.g. instead of “Cincinnati, OH”, it might say “Major City in Ohio”). Furthermore, the Registered Seller’s name, contact information and practice location will be withheld from the Practice Opportunity Details e-mail. Doing so will require Ziegler Practice Transitions’ staff to inform the Registered Seller each time a Registered Buyer inquires about the Practice Opportunity and it will then be up to the Registered Seller to respond to the Registered Buyers’ inquiries. It is important to note that Listing Anonymously will result in a far more time-consuming process than Listing Publicly wherein Registered Buyers are able to contact the Registered Seller directly.

Listing Publicly:

When Listing Publicly, the Registered Seller’s exact city and state may be used or it may be exchanged for a geographic description within the General Notice of Practice Opportunities e-mail (e.g. instead of “Cincinnati, OH”, it might say “Major City in Ohio”). However, the Registered Seller’s name, contact information and practice location will be included within the Practice Opportunity Details e-mail. Therefore, Registered Buyers will contact the Registered Seller directly to inquire about a particular opportunity. Registered Sellers who have chosen to List Publicly must reply directly to inquiries made by Registered Buyers in order to begin discussions regarding the Practice Opportunity and to decide with whom to move forward.

Upon completing their registration, all Registered Sellers will receive a detailed list of the current Registered Buyers seeking Practice Opportunities within the Registered Seller’s state. At any time, Registered Sellers may request an updated list of Registered Buyers. Registered Sellers may do so by contacting Steven Ziegler.

Note: It is always the responsibility of the Registered Seller to engage the Registered Buyer(s) in discussions and to determine with whom to move forward. Our only role in this effort is to provide Registered Sellers and Registered Buyers with a means of contacting one another for the purpose of Practice Transition.

Finding a Practice Opportunity

Buyer Registration Form

If you are seeking a Practice Opportunity, please complete the Buyer Registration Form. Your profile will be sorted based on the various information you provide and will then be distributed among the relevant Registered Sellers. The information you provide will be made available to any Registered Seller offering a Practice Opportunity within the state(s) you select on the Buyer Registration Form.

Note: Your Buyer Registration will only remain active for one (1) year from the date the Buyer Registration Form is completed. Reminders to renew your Buyer Registration will be sent two (2) months, one (1) month and one (1) week prior to deactivation of your Buyer Registration. Those e-mails will be sent to the e-mail address you provide on the Buyer Registration Form.

Additionally, Registered Buyers will begin receiving the General Notice of Practice Opportunities e-mail which is sent each month on or around the 15th. The General Notice of Practice Opportunities e-mail will consist of brief descriptions of all of the Practice Opportunities that we know of at that time. Registered Buyers are to request more information about a specific Practice Opportunity by clicking on the link within the General Notice of Practice Opportunities e-mail that is associated with that Practice Opportunity.

Once a Registered Buyer has clicked on a link to request more information about a specific Practice Opportunity, we will send the Practice Opportunity Details e-mail for that Practice Opportunity. The Practice Opportunity Details e-mail will contain all of the information the Registered Seller is willing to share regarding the Practice Opportunity. From the Practice Opportunity Details e-mail, a Registered Buyer is to further decide if this is an opportunity worth pursuing. If the Registered Buyer wants to pursue the opportunity, the Practice Opportunity Details e-mail will provide either the Registered Seller’s contact information or refer the Registered Buyer to Ziegler Practice Transitions, Ltd. so we can contact the Registered Seller and inform him/her of the Registered Buyer’s interest.

Note: Registered Buyers are not to forward or otherwise share any information provided in the General Notice of Practice Opportunities or the Practice Opportunity Details e-mails. If a Registered Buyer believes that another individual might be interested in or benefit from the information, he/she should refer that individual to our website where that individual can register for this program and begin receiving information on their own.

Practice Listing Considerations

The best thing a Seller can do prior to listing his/her practice for sale is to allow us to appraise the practice and to make copies of that Appraisal available to be sent to interested parties. Any interested parties would be required to sign and return a Non-Disclosure Agreement between the Registered Buyer, Registered Seller and Ziegler Practice Transitions, Ltd. in order to receive a copy of the Practice Appraisal. Furthermore, the Registered Buyer would be required to return the copy of the Appraisal within a reasonable period of time.

Note: Having a defined Fair Market Value for a practice listing is an eventual necessity. Choosing to do this step prior to listing creates a stronger response once the practice is listed.

How much does this service cost?

There is no fee for this service, nor is there any obligation to use our Practice Transition Services, even if we provide you with a Practice Match. We are providing this service as a courtesy to the orthodontic profession and we strongly advise seeking out Practice Opportunities on your own as well as registering with the AAO Practice Opportunities Online.

Note: We strongly advise against using a brokerage firm that charges a percentage of the purchase price for Matching Services. These firms are typically geared toward General Dental Sales and we feel that a “finder’s fee” of ten percent (10%) of the purchase price is just too costly for this service; especially considering there are free resources available.

How do we find Buyers & Sellers?

2010 Senior Mailer

An essential step in any practice transition is finding a Buyer or Seller with whom to transition. This is a difficult process and very few companies provide this service, let alone for free. However, in an effort to get the message out to Potential Sellers, we send semi-annual mailers (Abobe Acrobat® or Adobe Reader® is required) to all orthodontists in the US, aged 45 to 70 years old, requesting that they let us know if they are looking to hire an Associate, bring in a Partner or if they are ready to Sell their practice and retire.

In an effort to get the message out to Potential Buyers, we offer Free Live Lunch & Learn Webinars to all of the orthodontic programs in the US and Canada several times annually; we lecture to all of the residents (as well as practicing orthodontists) at the four (4) regional 3M Unitek Summit Meetings; and each year we are sponsors / vendors at the Graduate Orthodontic Residents’ Program (GORP) and the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Annual Session.

How does this process work?

For Purposes of this Program: The term Registered Seller refers to any practicing orthodontist who has registered with our program to offer an Associate Position within, Partial Sale of or Complete Sale of his/her orthodontic practice. The term Registered Buyer refers to any orthodontist or orthodontic resident who has registered with our program to find an Associate Position within, Partial Sale of or Complete Sale of an existing orthodontic practice.

When a practicing orthodontist decides to register with our Free Practice Matching Assistance Program and offer a Practice Opportunity, we work closely with that Registered Seller to create two (2) e-mails for the purpose of marketing the opportunity to our Registered Buyers.

The first e-mail is a basic description of the opportunity and is designed to provide minimal information to Registered Buyers. That basic description will be e-mailed to all Registered Buyers monthly as part of the General Notice of Practice Opportunities e-mail which contains brief descriptions of all of the Practice Opportunities we know of at that time. From those basic descriptions, each Registered Buyer is to decide which opportunities he/she is interested in.

If a Registered Buyer is interested in a particular opportunity, he/she will request more information regarding that opportunity by clicking on a specific link within the General Notice of Practice Opportunities e-mail. That request for more information notifies us to send the Practice Opportunity Details e-mail for that particular Practice Opportunity. The Practice Opportunity Details e-mail is the second e-mail created and is the e-mail that contains the specific details for a particular Practice Opportunity.

Note: Practice Opportunity Details e-mails are only sent to Registered Buyers who specifically request more information regarding a particular Practice Opportunity. Those specific requests are made by Registered Buyers through links provided within the General Notice of Practice Opportunities e-mail sent monthly.

If a Registered Seller has chosen to list ANONYMOUSLY, the Registered Seller’s name, contact information and practice location will not be displayed in the Practice Opportunity Details e-mail. Instead, Registered Buyers will be required to request that Ziegler Practice Transitions, Ltd. contact the Registered Seller on behalf of the Registered Buyer (to do so, there will be a link provided within the Practice Opportunity Details e-mail). It will then be up to the Registered Seller to decide whether or not to contact the Registered Buyer and begin discussions regarding the Practice Opportunity.

If a Registered Seller has chosen to list PUBLICLY, the Registered Seller’s name, contact information and practice location will be displayed within the Practice Opportunity Details e-mail. In such a case, Registered Buyers will contact the Registered Seller directly to pursue discussions regarding the Practice Opportunity.

Whether a Registered Seller has elected to list ANONYMOUSLY or PUBLICLY, it is always the responsibility of the Registered Seller to engage the Registered Buyer(s) in discussions and determine with whom to move forward.

Note: Upon registration, Registered Sellers will also receive a current list of the Registered Buyers seeking Practice Opportunities within that Registered Seller’s state. The Registered Seller may contact anyone on that list at any time to begin discussing the Practice Opportunity.

What is the purpose of this program?

The intent of this program is to empower Practicing Orthodontists who are looking to hire an Associate, bring in a Partner or Sell their practice, by providing them with a no-cost means of finding Orthodontic Residents and Recent Graduates who are seeking those types of opportunities. It is expected that the parties involved (Registered Buyers and Registered Sellers) communicate with one another and decide on their own with whom to continue discussions, ultimately resulting in a finalized Practice Transition.

At all times, Registered Buyers and Registered Sellers are to respect the sensitive nature of this endeavor, are not to discuss or share, whether intentionally or otherwise, any of the information we have provided in this effort and are to adhere to the Terms & Conditions of a General Non-disclosure Agreement.

This program relies on the basic ethical nature of orthodontists and the integrity of the orthodontic community. The only way we can continue to provide our matching assistance program is by all parties involved respecting and adhering to strict confidentiality regarding the information being shared.

Note: We do not guarantee that a Practice Opportunity will be found and/or result in a finalized transition for any Registered Buyer; nor do we guarantee that listing a Practice Opportunity will result in a finalized transition for any Registered Seller.

How did this program come to be?

Our position as lecturers for 3M Unitek’s Bottom Line® University Program and 3M Unitek’s Annual Regional Summit meetings has put us in front of all of the orthodontic residents in the country since 1997. Over the years, the residents continually asked us if we knew of any practices for sale or if any Associate positions were available in a particular state. Finally, we decided to create a list of all of those orthodontic residents, where they wanted to practice and what type of transition they were interested in. With that, our Free Practice Matching Assistance Program was born.
